Ladies' Ihraam, Hajj & Umrah (Pregnancy)

Pregnancy

A pregnant woman can be excused from performing Hajj on health grounds.  However she cannot send someone else to do it on her behalf, (Hajj-e-Badl), as her condition is not permanent.

The first three months of pregnancy are more risky as the rites of Hajj are very demanding.

In the last stages of pregnancy it can also be risky and uncomfortable as bus journeys between various points within the kingdom can be long.

Pregnant women should not take any vaccinations, especially meningitis.

Pregnant women should also take extra care during Tawaaf-e-Ziyyaarat and during Ramee as there is a lot of jostling.

If a lady happens to give birth in Saudi Arabia, she should ensure that she has obtained all the necessary documentation before departing for her home country.  Such a lady should also ensure that she budgets for this extra cost.
